Salla Hakkola Trio

Salla Maria Hakkola is a folk harpist, singer, and composer active in multiple genres. Drawing on her eclectic musical interests and two years spent in Mexico studying the harp traditions of Latin America, she has developed a personal approach to performance and improvisation on the folk harp.

Hakkola composes most of her repertoire, and is an active composer of concert music for other instrumentalists as well. She also composes for film, theater, and dance. Her music is equally likely to be heard on the classical concert stage, at folk festivals, indie-rock clubs, or experimental art happenings. Hakkola is currently pursuing her second Masters degree from the Sibelius Academy, in the newly founded Global Music program and composing music for Rovio Ltd.

In her Salla Hakkola Trio she teams up with bassist Eero Seppä and drummer Touko Ruokolainen to take paths through the mystical scenery of folk, jazz, indie, pop and world-music and make it their own. They perform songs composed by Hakkola whose original lyrics range from the absurdity of everyday realities to the depths of the human soul. Both Seppä and Ruokolainen study in the jazz music department of Sibelius Academy and work as freelance musicians playing with numerous jazz and pop music acts both big and small in scale.
