The headliner of the jazzy Sunday is one of the ambassadors of suomijazz, sax player Timo Lassy's quintet, Timo Lassy Band. The band releases their newest "In With Lassy" album on the highly acclaimed, Italian Schema Records label. The release is Lassy's third solo album and it's recorded in the traditional cooking session spirit, where the songs aspire from seizing the moment.  Lassy and his fellow virtuosos prove on the album, that they stand the comparison with the classics and yet succeed in making a fresh approach to contemporary jazz. To Timo Lassy Band, the tradition is not a cage, it's a source of inspiration!

DEFEKT's music is a subtle mixture of musical elements from jazz, rock, alternative pop and free-impro. In addition, influences from old computer game sounds and science fiction books gives their music an extra dimension. The band bases its musical approach on intensive interaction and improvisation - yet remaining an open-minded surf attitude! DEFEKT has toured actively in Finland, Estonia, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Iceland. Their debut album "Pete's Game Machine" was released 10th of September 2010 on the Finnish record label Eclipse Music.

The hotly-tipped jazz trio Mopo released their debut album "Jee!" by Helsinki's Texicalli Records. Mopo (moped) is an energetic outburst of jazz drawing from punk and the nature of Finland. Mopo was founded upon sheer intuition, at a bar in Helsinki's "Vallila" quarters. The trio's sound and stage praesens is all based on friendship and mutual trust among the three talented musicians. This natural emotional strenght offers an explanation for the overtly enthusiastic reactions of the listeners, common at early Mopo gigs. Energy breeds energy. Mopo was also noted by the jury of the Finnish leg of the Young Nordic Jazz Comets band contest, where Mopo walked away with the first prize and a slot at the Nordic finals.

Artturi Rönkä Quartet was chosen to represent Finland at this year's Young Nordic Jazz Comets band competition in Copenhagen. The Finnish YNJC jury described the quartet's performance and expression as "strong and dynamic" and their interaction as "natural and immersive". Keeping the jazz traditions close by, the band plays pianist-composer Rönkä's compositions. In spite of the musicians' age (they're all born in 1990!), the ensemble has stuck together for some years now, and it can be heard as seamless communication. This is a glimpse in the future of suomijazz!

Whether hosting their We Jazz club at Helsinki's Kuudes Linja or their weekly jazz show on Bassoradio channel, the We Jazz djs spin timeless jazz tunes for dancing feet and intense listeners. The collective has recently gained attention at New York's Music Doc Festival, Pori Jazz and numerous other Finnish festivals.
